Monday, March 17, 2008 Pat spent the morning with the Health and Safety Committee, Drew Soltys and John Woodmansee at Vinal Tech conducting a Health and Safety walk-through. All in all Vinals science labs and shops appeared to be in good shape. A few minor violations were noted and they will be attended to by the very competent and accommodating Building Supervisor, Michael Boudreau.
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 Rick and Pat met with Attorney Brian Doyle at AFT-CT. in the morning and then spent several hours at the L.O.B. with Susan Williams, AFT-Ct. lobbyist. Susan arranged a meeting with Lauren Kaufman of CBIA. Lauren discussed with Rick and Pat a proposal to obtain a substantial grant to prepare a workforce for employment in the Energy Industry. Pat and Rick then attended a 4:30 p.m. discussion meeting on NCLB with Leo Canty, Vice-President of AFT-CT.
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 All three officers were at the office in the morning. A 2:00 p.m. meeting took place at AFT-CT to discuss the pension reimbursement issue with representatives from the Department of Education fiscal office as well as the Comptrollers office. The resolution of this issue is long overdue but we left the meeting with an assurance from Bureau Chief Bruce Ellefson, to work with us to achieve a reasonable solution. At 4:00 p.m. the Outreach Committee met at the SVFT office.
Thursday, March 20, 2008 Found Pat and Rick on the road at the crack of dawn to be at an 8:00 a.m. meeting at Norwalk Community College to continue the dialogue about Wright Tech and how it may change. After the meeting Pat went to Wright Tech and meet briefly with the principal, Sid Abramowitz and then with a few members and the building rep.
Friday, March 21, 2008 all schools and the SVFT office were closed in observance of Good Friday.
Monday, March 24, 2008 Ed was off to Grasso to work on resolving an issue for a member and Pat and Rick were preparing for our meeting with the superintendent and the rest of the weeks up-coming events.
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 A lunch meeting with Dr. Hughes and her assistants is scheduled for 12:30 and a 4:00 p.m. meeting of the Constitution and By-Laws will take place at Wilcox.
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Pat and Rick have a 10:00 a.m. meeting with Patricia Mayfield, commissioner of Labor to discuss the current and future workforce needs of out state among other topics.
Thursday, March 27, 2008 Today is the Newsletter deadline. The office will be busy getting the newsletter together to be formatted and sent to lay-out editor, Mitch White.
Friday, March 28, 2008 Skills Day for the CTHSS system and a day off for most teachers and students. Officers will be available.
Scholarship Applications Available - the applications for the nine (9) students and the teacher grant(s) are available on the SVFT web site. Deadline for completed applications is May 15, 2008
Constitution and By-Laws Committee- will meet on Tuesday, 3/25 at 4:00 to review a submitted request to amend our constitution. Ed DeSousa, committee chair, called that meeting to be held at Wilcox Tech to accommodate the committee members.
