Wright Tech- SVFT leadership remains in contact with Dr. David Levinson, President of Norwalk Community College, and we are working hard to ensure that the dialogue about the future of Wright Tech continues. Meetings will be scheduled throughout the summer and summaries will be included in the September issue of Vocational Instructor
General Membership Meeting- Took place on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 P.M. at Wilcox Tech. While the turn out was less than we hoped for, we were still able to satisfy the constitutional requirement for a quorum (50% of the schools and 20 members). This enabled us to conduct business which included, among other things, accepting the 2008-2009 SVFT budget. A membership meeting is your opportunity to participate in union affairs. The next General Membership meeting will be on November 13, 2008.
School Visits - continue this week with a visit to Wolcott on Tuesday, and Bullard-Havens on Thursday. Building representatives are being asked to schedule a union meeting on the day of the visit. The SVFT officers will arrive in each building on or close to 1:00 p.m. and visit with teachers who may be free and have individual issues to discuss. At the close of school the officers will attend a union meeting in each school. Some schools have had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts within the buildings. Those meetings will be rescheduled for June.
Scholarship Winners Selected -The committee received 26 applications for the nine (9) student scholarships. The selection process proved to be difficult for the committee because all of the applicants were very qualified. Congratulations to the winners! They will be announced in the June Vocational Instructor.
Political Action Committee- Survey questions are being developed and, once the committee approves them, will be sent to nominated political candidates running for office in November. Responses to the survey questions will be used to ascertain how the candidates view the CTHSS and its future.
Teacher of the Year- The selection committee met on Wednesday, May 21 at the SVFT offices to review the applications for CTHSS Teacher of the Year. This very objective process scored each candidate and the four with the highest scores will be interviewed at Central Office later this month.
