What's Happening?

  • The last week for February was a busy one for all. Preparations for CAPT were underway in all schools. CAPT will take place  2/27  3/18.
  • Wright Tech On Tuesday, 2/26 the Rick Tanasi, SVFT President and Pat Keavney, SVFT Vice-President hosted a breakfast at the Rocky Hill Marriott to engage the Stamford delegation and interested parties in the dialogue about the future of Wright Tech. Present were: Jack Condlin, President of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce; Margaret Conabel of the Carpenters Union; Lori Pellitier, Secretary/Treasurer of the AFL-CIO; Dr. David Levinson, President of Norwalk Community College; Al Sansererino, Tony Masterino, and Frank Macchio of the Wright Tech Advisory Group, and John Bruno, Assistant Principal from Platt. The conversation was lively and productive. Plans are underway to meet again at the Legislative Office Building so we can include the legislators.
  • Labor Management- Will meet again on May 9, 2008 at the SVFT offices. If you have strong opinions about something or a question or concern, please let us know and we may consider adding it to our L.M. agenda.
  • Outreach Will meet again on 3/6. John Kraigenow wrote an outstanding letter to the editor of the Danbury News Times bemoaning the fact that our schools are filled to only 70% capacity while we have waiting lists of students being left behind.Click here to read the letter.
  • School Visits - Spring will bring Daylight Savings as well as visits from the SVFT officers to each of the schools. The schedule for these visits is being prepared and will be published shortly.
  • Budget Committee-- met on Thursday, 2/27 at 4:00 at the SVFT office. A comprehensive budget for the 2008  2009 school year has been prepared for the Executive Council to review on Wednesday, 3/5. The budget will be available to membership following approval at the council meeting and it will be voted on at the General Membership meeting on May 15.
  • Scholarship Applications Available - the applications for the nine (9) students and the teacher grant(s) are available on the SVFT web site. Deadline for completed applications is May 15, 2008
  • Survey Committee- the survey committee met on Thursday, February 28. Ed Leavy was elected to chair this committee. If you are interested in serving on this committee please contact the union office.
