Special Election- Executive Union Representative, Ed Lang has announced his resignation from office effective November 12, 2008. A special election will be held on November 12, 2008 to fill this position. Watch your mailboxes at home for a postcard from the SVFT listing the names of the candidates as they will appear on the ballots. Ballots were distributed to each school this week. Seven members have been nominated and their biographical information is posted on the SVFT Web-site under Members Log-in (click here). You may also read the candidates statements in the October Vocational Instructor (click here). *** Members of the Nomination and Election Committee will be helping out on 11/12 in schools where reps are on the ballot. At Whitney, Gary DelPiano will help Pat Ripley run the election; At Vinal President Rick Tanasi will give Sue Niemic a hand, Linda DeSousa, SVFT Secretary will be helping Sandy McKee run that election and Pat Keavney, SVFT Vice President will go to OBrien to help Mary Torres because Ken Anton is out sick.
Help us update our database- Many members over 70 do not have their correct mailing addresses on file at the SVFT office. This means they do not receive any information sent via U.S. mail. So far this year we have mailed (as mandated by the Constitution & By-Laws) letters with information about the special election and post cards with the candidates names. We are in the process of sorting all the returned mail and distributing it to the reps to disseminate in the buildings. Degree Scale Stipend- According to Central Office the degree scale stipends will be in the paycheck dated December 19, 2008. Please comply with the posted application regulations if you feel you are eligible for a stipend.
School Visits-- The SVFT leadership visits are going well. Last week Pat and Rick spent the day at Eli Whitney.
State Board of Ed News- The CT Sub-Board met on 10/27 at Central Office. Vice President Pat Keavney stressed the importance of developing an action plan with timelines and goals for the transition of Wright Tech. This will be followed up by a letter. On Wednesday 11/5 the full Ct. Board of Education will meet in Hartford. Pat will attend. The authorization of Facilities Management, Media Production, Music and Theater Production and Business Management trades is on the agenda. Capital Budget Requests is the first agenda item.
